Webquest

Hi! This week I was supposed to evaluate a Webquest. Actually, I wasn't willing to do this project, but when I finished it, I was glad to do it. Learning more about Webquests was nice because as a future teacher I definetely would love to use it with my students.

Here is the Webquest that I chose: A Party for the Ages

Overall Aesthetics

Overall Visual Appeal: Graphic elements are related with the concept but there aren't enough images. For example, in the process part, guests whom students will invite to their parties are introduced but there is only Lincoln's picture. To get Students' attention there could be pictures of other guests. Background color is appropriate for reading easily and there some variation in type font. 2/4

Navigation & Flow: It is so clear to understand what to do for every step. Students can follow the steps without a problem. 4/4

Mechanical Aspects: There isn't any broken link or any other mechanical problem. 2/2

Introduction

Motivational Effectiveness of Introduction: In the introduction part there is an interesting story which can draw students! attention. They can feel like as if they are part of This story because it is their job to prepare a party for the visitors from the past. 2/2

Cognitive Effectiveness of the Introduction: The introduction part prepares students about what they will do in the next parts. On the other hand there isn't anything about the students' prior knowledge. 1/2

Task

Connection of Task to Standards:  The task is referenced to standards and what students are expected to do are related with these standards. For example, they have to learn about the famous people's lives from the given links and it will develop their reading skills. They can also develop their planning and writing skills by following the steps. 4/4

Cognitive Level of the Task: The task is doable. Students cannot complete the task only with the information they find on the internet. They also have to relate the information and use their creativity to plan the party. 6/6

Process

Clarity of Process: Every step of the process is clearly stated. They can hardly be misunderstood. 4/4

Scaffolding of Process: The process provides students what they need to complete the task. There are many useful links for learners to find the necessary information. What they are asked for is clearly explained. Activities can develop students' thinking levels. 6/6

Richness of Process: The process consists of reading, writing, planning and reasoning. Also students can learn about several important famous people's lives. They will follow the steps within a group so they can learn to collaborate. 2/2

Resources

Relevance & Quantity of Resources: There is adequate amount of information. All the resources are related with the task. Students can find any kind of information to accomplish what they are asked for. For example, they can learn about the food and the music taste of their guests. 4/4

Quality of Resources: There are many resources and they all provide meaningful information. Resources consist of pictures, biographies and even a video. 4/4

Evaluation

Clarity of Evaluation Criteria: Criteria for successes are clearly stated with a rubric. They can understand what they are expected to do. Also there are three questions to make students think about the project. 6/6

Total Score: 47/50

Wiki Page!

For this week, my task was to create a wiki page. This was the first time that I created a wiki page. It is always fun for me to learn new things and because of it, this project made me happy. Writing about one of my favourite books was so entertaining but it was a bit diffucult to summarize the book because it has an unusual content.

Just like the creating a story which we did last week, I think creating a wiki page helps EFL learners to improve their writing skills.

Here is the link for my wiki page, I hope you like the book !

Creating a Story: Best Friend's Wedding Disaster

I worked with Merve Kul in this project. We told a story about our imaginary best friend's wedding and how we ruined it :) When I first heard about the project, I got excited because I really like making up stories. Doing this in English was even better. It helped me to learn new words. We didn't have any technical difficulties. It was easy to record our voice and upload it. On the other hand, before we started the project, the idea of recording my sound made me feel a little bit nervous. When I heard my voice for the first time, it was so weird but then I got used to it. Eventually I can say that podcasting is benefical for EFL learners to see their pronunciation mistakes, improve their speaking skills and feel more confident. Also it helps them to have fun :)
